Their story

Pairi Daiza was born on 11 May 1994 on the estate of the Cistercian abbey of Cambron, founded in 1148 at Brugelette, between Mons and Ath. It was then called Paradisio: a bird garden. Its name, adopted in 2010, comes from the Old Persian « pairi-daeza », the enclosed garden, in the sense of paradise.

Today the Garden of Worlds covers 80 hectares and brings together 800 animal species in ten worlds: the ancient China of the Middle Kingdom and its giant pandas, the Indonesia of the Kingdom of Ganesha and its elephants, the Africa of the Land of Origins, the Oceania of the Austral Cape, the Alaska of the Last Frontier, the polar bears of the Land of the Cold, the Japan of the Islands of the Rising Sun… And, since 7 February 2026, Edenya, the largest tropical greenhouse in the world according to Guinness World Records.

People come for the day, or stay the night: 209 lodgings facing the animals, half board. Restaurants, steam trains, encounters with the keepers, seasonal festivals and company events for up to 1,200 people punctuate the year. Through its Foundation, Pairi Daiza supports research, protects habitats, takes in reptiles and amphibians, and makes everyone aware of the beauty and the fragility of nature.
