Their story

Funnyrockers is Alexis Bertrand’s rock ’n’ roll school. As early as 2014, funnyrockers.com was already advertising his « dance classes » in Brussels: Rock ’n Roll, Slow Rapide and waltz. The school became a non-profit association in June 2024; today it describes itself as the largest rock ’n’ roll school and community in Belgium, and as a place where people who love life meet and share.

We teach three dances. Four-count Rock ’n’ Roll, at « Basics » and « Advanced » levels, with 256 moves in the programme. Slow Rapide ©, our own creation: a more dynamic, elegant and sensual slow dance, danced to today’s music, in small groups of 10 to 14. And Vibes ~ Rock Fusion, born of our belief that a dance must keep evolving: rock enriched with the flow of West Coast Swing, the connection of Zouk, the energy of Salsa and the sensuality of Bachata.

Classes take place in the evenings and on Sundays in six halls, in Etterbeek, Uccle, Brussels-Schuman, Braine-l’Alleud and Waterloo. Every 1.5-hour class keeps 30 minutes of free dancing, and a membership gets you into all our parties. A team of some twenty ambassadors helps us prepare the classes and events, and carry the spirit of the community. Around the classes come practicas, workshops, open-air rock at the Cinquantenaire, trips and the Gala at the Albert Hall.

Frequently asked questions

Can I learn rock without a partner?

Yes. We balance the number of leaders and followers; if they get out of balance, a temporary waiting list keeps every class balanced. A partner is only required for Slow Rapide.

Leader or follower: how do I choose?

The leader proposes and guides, the follower feels and responds: both roles are open to everyone, whatever their gender. You keep your role for the whole course, and you can learn both.

Do we change partners during the class?

In Basics, during the 60 minutes of teaching, with regular returns to your partner; it is not required during revision or free dancing. In Advanced, you choose at the start of the season between the group that rotates and the one that keeps its partner.

When do I move up to « Advanced »?

When your teachers approve it, depending on your progress. After that, you can stay in Basics, move to Advanced or take both.

Can I start mid-season?

Yes, in Rock ’n’ Roll and Vibes: the classes run continuously, and the price is worked out pro rata for the classes left.

What if I stop mid-season?

You are refunded, minus €20 in administrative costs.
