Their story

Brunimetal is a metal burnishing workshop founded at the end of 2017 in Manage, in the Belgian province of Hainaut. Our trade is burnishing: a chemical process that oxidises the surface of ferrous and non-ferrous parts. It works on the outer layer of the metal only, so the part is transformed on the surface and keeps its original physical properties.

We work with brass, copper, steel, aluminium, silver and gold, in a range of patinas and colours, from matt black to bronze. Everything is done by hand, for a high-end finish: each part is prepared and polished, immersed in our baths, rinsed, blown dry and left on racks, then protected by a final coat and wrapped in film, sealed with our own branded tape.

We support our clients through every stage of manufacturing, from preparing the parts to their final protection: even the simplest things deserve a tailor-made treatment.

In 2026 we launched BM Studio, a production workshop that puts our techniques and our spirit of experimentation at the service of artists, around burnishing and the processes that transform metal, to bring new collections to life. On 1 March 2026 it presented its collaboration with the designer Sébastien Caporusso, including the Saturn coffee table, in stainless steel, brass and copper.

Work

A small brass table, from gold to black

The need
A small table in golden brass, top and frame, followed from start to finish by our workshop film.
What was done
Polished, immersed in the bath, rinsed, blown dry and wiped: it comes out a deep brownish black, then leaves wrapped in film.

Brushed and golden brass

The need
Folded, drilled brass panels, a woven mesh of flat strips and rectangular frames.
What was done
The brass brushed or polished to a pale gold, then set to dry on racks in the workshop.

Bronze and aged-brass patinas

The need
Brushed brass sheets and three flared pieces of the same shape.
What was done
A dark bronze patina on the brushed brass; on the three pieces, three shades: black, aged brass and bronze.

Matt black on steel

The need
Drilled steel plates and steel profiles.
What was done
An even matt black on the plates, hung on a stainless-steel rack; a textured black finish on the profiles.

Black door knobs and handles

The need
Hardware for panelled doors: ornate oval knobs, long-plate lever handles and keyhole escutcheons.
What was done
A matt black finish on the metal, shown here on white panelled doors.
